UHF, Ultra High-Frequency signals don't travel quite as far outdoors as VHF signals, but they do a better job of penetrating things like wood, steel, and concrete; this gives you better range and performance in urban environments and around many buildings. UHF radios also have a smaller antenna.
The RCA BR200 VHF 2-way radio is a good choice if you plan to use the radio outdoor only and in an area that's relatively free of obstacles such as trees and buildings. Very high frequency signals travel further than UHF but does not provide the penetrating characteristics of UHF. VHF is also a better choice when traveling.
