Two Way Radios Can Add Profit to Your Business

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Looking for a way to add big bucks to your business bottom line? Adding profit to your business is music to any business owners ears. With all of the cost cutting plans available to business owners looking to save a buck, there is a new alternative to cutting corners. Two way radios are a proven method to save five to nine percent in labor time management. This alone can add thousands of dollars to your bottom line in just the first year alone. In order to do this you will need to make sure you select the right two way radio for your business.

Primitive walkie talkie style radios were first introduced into typical business practices decades ago. Technology and battery engineering made them awkward and difficult to use in everyday business applications. However, 2-way radios were recently made super-affordable, more portable and were given a much improved battery life. Combine these advancements with the ability to save countless labor-hours, cost-free talk time and you have one of the most promising bottom-line tools for just about any business.

The answer to getting the most out of your two-way radios is to make absolutely sure you choose the correct radio the first time you buy. Many small businesses make the mistake by starting off using Family-FRS radios. On average, these will work out great for the first month. Generally these radios will begin to loose their battery charge, the clips will break off, and speakers will cease to function after a few drops or slight abuse. The entire radio will need to be replaced within a relatively short period of time. These FRS radios were simply not designed for regular or business use. They were manufactured almost as toys, and are meant to be used gently a few times per year. In addition to this, FCC guidelines state it is a violation to use FRS radios in a business application.

Selecting the correct two way radio will make all the difference in the world. For the most part, any small to upper-medium sized company can benefit from the use of today’s two way radios. The cost will typically range from $200 to about $350 per radio. Improvements in battery design will get a full day use after an overnight charge for as much as 2-3 years of daily use. Plus, the durability of the radios has improved so much that it is not unheard of for some radios to still work great after 10 years. Vast improvements have also been seen in the new two way radios ability to take drops and abuse.

There are five basic elements to consider in choosing the right radio for your job:

VHF vs. UHF - The difference between UHF and VHF can be explained with frequency penetration. VHF waves travel about twice the distance of UHF waves on open ground, rolling hills or through foliage. However, VHF waves are very poor at penetrating walls, buildings and rugged landscape. So, if you are working completely outdoors with open land, rolling hills or heavy trees, VHF radios are the best. In any other situation, including indoor to outdoor use, UHF radios will be the choice. Also keep in mind that UHF and VHF radios will not communicate with each other.

Power - If the radios will be used within a single building, or outdoors in less than about 1 mile, then a 1-watt radio will be sufficient. If the 2-way radios will be used to communicate between multiple buildings or for up to 2 miles, then a 2-watt radio should be used. There are 4 and 5 watt radios that will communicate consistently at further distances, but there is a limitation to any radio-to-radio communication. Once exceeded, the only way to proceed is through the use of a repeater.

Channels - If your entire group will always be speaking on the same channel at the same time, no matter how many radios you have, you will only need a 1-channel radio. However if you manage a hotel and you want the valets to be on one channel and the cleaning crew to be on another channel, then you will want a multiple channel capable radio system. This will allow each group to communicate individually, but not talk over each other. For you as the manager to be able to communicate with both of the groups, you will want a radio that “scans”. This will allow you to speak with either group by switching to the appropriate channel automatically.

Range - Handheld radios will generally communicate up to 2 miles. Once you start putting obstacles in between the radios you will shorten the range. Even the body fluid of the person wearing the radio on their hip will absorb some of the radios range. Higher wattage radios will have a slight increase in range and a major increase in clarity of transmission on the outer fringes of a radios range. Mobile radios, such as those mounted in vehicles, will generally talk “radio-to-radio” 8-10 miles depending upon the obstacles and the terrain. Base stations will generally talk approximately 8-12 miles. Contrary to popular belief, wattage does not determine distance. Antenna height and placement will determine the range of a two-way radio.

Durability - Business radios range anywhere from units that are designed for restaurant and hotel use, to radios for heavy-duty military operations. It is best to review the specifications of each radio to determine if it fits you particular business application. When in doubt be sure to contact a qualified two way radio sales person to help you.

By selecting the proper two way radio, you will be certain to start off on the right foot for your business. You will gain all of the benefits of having two-way radio communication, but will avoid the common pitfall of having to replace junk radios that are not designed for business use.

MyRadioMall.com has helped thousands of business owners choose the proper two-way radios for their needs and can help you choose the correct radio to help your business excel. Add to profit to your business by visiting MyRadioMall.com.

Motorola Radios - Is imitation the best form of flattery?

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Well it almost looks like a Motorola CP200 2-Way Radio with comparable features, it almost performs like a CP200 Radio. - OK already, enough smoke and mirrors.

There will always be a group of people who rely on trickery and smoke and mirrors to make a living. It is nothing more than the old Snake & Oil salesperson catching up to today’s technology.

It seems that the number of websites selling “want to be” Motorola 2-Way Radios is on the rise. Sites that advertise Motorola 2-way Radios at unbelievable prices only to find that when your order arrives it’s a Motorola “want to be“. To add insult to injury, because a majority of the sites are NOT affiliated with Motorola in anyway, Motorola can’t help you.

What makes this even more disturbing for us at MyRadioMall.com, being the leader and the largest authorized online retailer for Motorola (12 years now and over 12.5 million customers later), these people think they have the right to come to our site to copy our contents, steal our pictures and our ideas, in many cases even without removing our company information. Let’s just say that a lot of angry phone calls and quite a few attorney letters are making a difference.

As a consumer you must protect yourself in this day and age, especially with the increasing technology that finds its way into your homes and businesses. Dealing with a reliable and authorized company does have its advantages and saves you both time and money in the long run.

In a way we are flattered that people come to our site because we’ve done it right. MyRadioMall.com is now the target of many other sites thinking they can mimic what we have done. We were laughed at as the very first Motorola authorized dealer to go online even without the concept of a shopping cart. Doesn’t matter if it’s 1995 or 2007, MyRadioMall.com offers the best value anywhere when it comes to all your Motorola 2-Way Radios, Real Motorola Batteries and Motorola accessories with value-added service.

Bottom line, purchasing from an authorized Motorola dealer gives you protection. Have you been duped? Call us and will report the incident for you and try to assist you.

Identity theft – not if we can help it and WE CAN!

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

MyRadioMall.com, The world’s largest Motorola online shopping mall, has now been added to the growing list of over 70,000 web sites that supports the HACKER SAFE protection system and tries to reduce the increasing problem of identity theft.

Can identity theft be slowed down or even prevented?

“YES IT CAN” says Ray Fernandez, web designer at Advanced Radio Systems, INC., designer and operator of MyRadioMall.com.

“We love being the first at just about anything. People laughed at us when we decided to be the first to launch a web site dedicated strictly to Motorola. This was way back in 1994. Even before the concept of a shopping cart was introduced, we created our own in 1995.”

“This Year we’ve increased our encryption technology to better protect our customers and added over 10 new systems to protect against credit card fraud, including the latest in IP geographical location technology. We just love our customers and realized if they don’t come back, we don’t stay in business”

“Every day you hear about a new incident of identity theft, another data center or a financial institution gets hacked. Let’s face it, these people are not stupid, they are pretty smart to constantly be finding ways to hack into someone’s information system and destroy people’s lives. We are so proud to be the first Motorola Authorized Dealer to support and implement HACKER SAFE.”

“We love to provide our customers with Motorola Proven Communications Equipment at great pricing and now to provide peace of mind, like the commercial says “absolutely priceless” says Dayana Avila, Internet manager at MyRadioMall.com. “We really truly love our customers and if identity theft can possibly be prevented, we’re there.”

IMPRES Battery System - What is it?

Monday, June 5th, 2006

Motorola’s IMPRES Battery Smart Energy System is a unique battery charging and reconditioning solution that automates battery maintenance, optimizes cycle life and maximizes talk time so your radio system will be charged and ready to go … whenever you need it.

Automates battery maintenance…

With IMPRES, manual battery maintenance is not required. IMPRES uses a unique communications protocol to facilitate adaptive reconditioning that diminishes memory effect that results when batteries are continually charged before they’re fully discharged. The IMPRES Smart Energy System adjusts the reconditioning frequency to match individual battery usage patterns. No longer will you have to manually track and record battery usage. With automatic and adaptive reconditioning, you eliminate guesswork and the time wasted reconditioning batteries prematurely.
IMPRES chargers can also charge compatible non-IMPRES Motorola batteries. However, automatic reconditioning and all other IMPRES features are realized only when using Motorola IMPRES batteries and chargers.

Optimizes cycle life…

An IMPRES battery may be left in an IMPRES charger for extended periods without heat damage due to the charger. This makes IMPRES ideal for those applications that require equipment in a “ready” state at all times.

A battery with brains…

To optimize performance, the IMPRES battery stores usage information that’s continuously analyzed by the charging and reconditioning system to automatically maintain the battery at peak performance levels.

A charger that communicates…

Motorola’s IMPRES multi-unit chargers are available with a two-line display module that communicates important information in real time, including: Battery capacity and voltage while charging Time remaining to complete the rapid charging process, so you always know when your battery will be fully charged (NiCd and NiMH only) Current battery status, such as charging or reconditioning information The battery’s unique serial number, kit number, and chemistry

Staying power…

When used exclusively with IMPRES chargers, IMPRES batteries carry extended capacity warranties that continue six months longer than Motorola Premium battery warranties. Motorola’s IMPRES Smart Energy System is designed to help you charge batteries to maximum capacity – so they have the power your radio systems require…so you can do your job.

And yes, MyRadioMall.com carries all Motorola’s IMPRES batteries and chargers.

Multiplier Batteries, Honeywell Batteries and those copycats, just how good are they?

Monday, May 29th, 2006

We just got back from the big IWCE show in Las Vegas. This year it was nice to see that Motorola has finally decided to fight back with a vengeance against the generic third party battery market that seems to be targeting their Motorola two way radios.

We’ve always known in the industry just how poorly constructed and poorly designed these batteries truly are. It’s finally nice to have some real evidence that shows how poorly these batteries hold up. It’s about time Motorola got the word out, particularly in life threatening situations where your life can actually matter.

I don’t know how many times we’ve had radios in our shop only to inform customers that there’s nothing wrong with their radios, it’s those generic batteries. You think you’re paying less, but in reality they are paying much more.

Some of these batteries actually deliver greater amps that the radios were designed to operate in. Since their circuitry are pretty much nonexistent, they can actually harm, if not destroy your radio. Some of the circuitry in these batteries is actually held together by scotch tape. I never knew the many uses of scotch tape until we tore these batteries apart.

We took a multiplier battery out in the parking lot, threw it up in the air and when it landed it shattered into numerous pieces. It took 38 times to do the same thing with a Motorola original battery and that’s because we got so mad that it would not break, so we slammed it viciously against the concrete.

People viewing this thought we were crazy and we had to explain to them what we were doing, hopefully before they call the cops on us.

Here is overwhelming proof that you get what you pay for and in the case of Motorola originals, you get more. How tough are your batteries?

Multiplier, Honeywell, Battery Zone or Power Products, please feel free to respond.

Just for the record, MyRadioMall.com sells Motorola original batteries at generic pricing.

Like my Motorola Rep likes to say “What could be better”!
